How to check someone
- Copy the username, phone, email, domain, or wallet exactly.
- Paste it into search on the home page.
- Open matching reports and read descriptions / evidence.
- If nothing shows up, stay cautious anyway — and report if you were targeted.
Common scam patterns
Romance & social media
Be wary of fast emotional connection, excuses to avoid video calls, and sudden money emergencies. Search the handle on Scam Search before engaging further.
Crypto & investment
Guaranteed returns, “send crypto to unlock funds,” and unsolicited wallet DMs are classic patterns. Verify wallet addresses and never share seed phrases.
Phone & SMS
Government agencies and banks do not demand gift cards or crypto over the phone. Search the number, hang up, and call the organization back on a known official line.
Job & LinkedIn
Fake recruiters often push off-platform chat and ask for fees, equipment payments, or ID photos early. Confirm the company independently.
FAQ
What is Scam Search?
Scam Search is a public database of community-submitted scam reports. People search usernames, phone numbers, emails, websites, and crypto wallets to see if someone has been reported before.
Are reports verified?
No. Reports are user-submitted and not independently verified by Scam Search. Treat them as warnings from other people, not as proof. Always use your own judgment and official channels when needed.
What does “no reports found” mean?
It only means nobody in our database has reported that identifier yet. Scammers change handles often. Absence of a report is not a clean bill of health.
How should I use a report that I find?
Read the description and any evidence carefully. Look for multiple reports on the same identity. Still avoid sending money or personal data to strangers, even if reports look convincing or sparse.
Can I report anonymously?
Yes. Submissions do not require an account. Do not include your own personal contact details in the report text unless you intentionally want them public.
Someone reported me by mistake. What do I do?
Use the Dispute a Report page and email legal@scamsearch.org with the report ID and a clear explanation. We review disputes as capacity allows.
