Search the number
Enter the full number with its country code in the search box below. Spaces, dashes and brackets don't matter, and you can paste a wa.me link for a WhatsApp number. If other people have reported it, you'll see what it was used for and the screenshots they shared.
No reports doesn't mean a number is safe. Scammers go through numbers quickly, and many victims never report. Treat a clean search as "unknown", not "trusted".
Warning signs in a call or text
- Urgency: your account will be closed, a parcel returned or a fine doubled unless you act now.
- A request for a code sent to your phone. Codes are for you to type in, never to read out to anyone.
- Payment by gift card, crypto, wire transfer or a payment app, especially to "protect" your money.
- A link to "confirm" details, pay a small delivery or toll fee, or unlock an account.
- A caller who says they're from your bank, the police or a tax office and asks you to keep the call secret.
Caller ID can be faked
Scammers can make any number appear on your screen, including your bank's real number. So a familiar number isn't proof of who is calling. If a caller claims to be from an organisation, hang up and call it back on a number you find yourself: the back of your card, a bill, or the official website.
Texts with links
Delivery, toll and bank texts are the most common lures. Don't tap the link: open the company's app or type its address yourself and check there. Real delivery companies don't ask for card details by text to release a parcel.
If you already paid or shared details
- Call your bank or card issuer on the number on your card and tell them it was a scam. The sooner they know, the more they can do.
- If you shared a login code, change that account's password and sign out other sessions.
- Report the number: in the US and UK you can forward scam texts to 7726 for free, and in the US you can also report to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
- Then report it on Scam Search so the next person who searches the number is warned.
